Seahawks cut 2012 fourth-round pick Jaye Howard
We’re over-trying. I love the attitude about it, in a sense, but we’ve got to get smarter.” — Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll, commenting on his team leading the league in penalties during the preseason with 34 accepted penalties for 354 yards. ———————————————– NFL Team Report – Seattle Seahawks – STRATEGY AND PERSONNEL The Seahawks still have cuts to pare its roster to the NFL-required 53 players before 6 p.m. ET Saturday. But on Friday night, seven-year veteran Michael Robinson beat the Seahawks to the punch when he tweeted that he did not make the team’s final roster. “Been real #12th Man will always have love for ya,” he tweeted.

The headliner of the group is All-Pro cornerback Richard Sherman , who came in at No. 8 in our #NFLrank list of defensive players . He didn’t lack for company, either. Every starter in the Seahawks’ secondary ranked among the top 50 (free safety Earl Thomas , cornerback Brandon Browner and strong safety Kam Chancellor ), and four other teammates rated among the best 100 (cornerback Antoine Winfield , linebacker Bobby Wagner and defensive ends Cliff Avril and Chris Clemons ). It’s almost unfair to think the Seahawks are sitting on that much talent. What this means is that Seattle finally is getting its just due for how complete this team really is. Most people who follow the NFL knew the Seahawks were talented and blessed with a young, gifted quarterback in Wilson. Sherman, however, was the primary supplier of their star power on defense. As productive as he was in a breakout season — when he had 64 tackles, eight interceptions and three forced fumbles — he made nearly as much noise with his nonstop bluster.
Seahawks tight end Zach Miller makes welcome early debut
Seattle released Howard before todays 53-man roster deadline, a league source tells PFT. Howard, a defensive lineman from Florida, is a 6-foot-3, 301-pounder who looks the part of a guy who should be ready to step into an NFL defense and make an immediate impact. But he played in just two games as a rookie with Seattle, and now his time there is done. Howard is subject to waivers, and it wouldnt be surprising to see some other team place a claim. Sign up now! Seahawks roster bubble: Chris Harper may not make roster Travel Deals Louis Bien, SBNation Posted: Thursday, August 29, 2013, 5:29 PM Chris Harper may not be long for the Seattle Seahawks roster. The fourth-round draft pick out of Kansas State may be cut when the Seahawks pare their roster down to 53 players by Saturday’s deadline, according to the Seattle Times , despite what the Times calls “long-range potential.” Seahawks projected 53-man roster Seahawks blog Field Gulls has Harper as one of six receivers making the 53-man roster, despite his inability to separate himself during training camp. Middle round draft picks tend to make it past final cuts coming out of preseason. The Seahawks are relatively deep at wide receiver, however. The Times currently projects Sidney Rice, Doug Baldwin , Golden Tate , Jermaine Kearse and Stephen Williams to make the final roster. Percy Harvin is also expected to join the corps if/when he comes off the physically unable to perform list later this season. If Harper is cut and clears waivers, he stands a good chance of being signed to the Seahawks’ practice squad, where he can gain experience before trying out for the team in 2014, or bide his time in case the team needs to call him up to the active roster midseason. Harper has impressive athleticism considering his 6’1, 234-pound frame.
Seahawks pump in Phish song, fans chant ‘Wilson’ Thursday
(LivePhish.com) Russell Wilson is neither an evil king nor from Gamehendge, but he’s become pretty closely associated with the band Phish thanks to Trey Anastasio asking Sidney Rice Authentic Jersey Seahawks fans to chant “WIL-SON” whenever the quarterback is introduced. (Trey also rocked a ‘Hawks shirt during a recent live show .) And to the delight of phootball phans everywhere, the crowd did just that during Thursday’s fourth preseason game. But it wasn’t just the crowd yelling “WIIIIIL-SON” when Russell took the field. If you go back and listen to the broadcast version you can actually hear the Seahawks pumping in the thumping double E-notes to alert the crowd it was time to cheer for their favorite cult hero/quarterback. It’s pretty surreal that this, you know, actually happened. Perhaps there’s a segment of the population that doesn’t care — and there’s almost certainly a large segment that doesn’t get any of this — but the connection between Phish’s jam-band crowd and Seahawks fans seems to be pretty strong.
Seahawks games will have undercover cop patrols
The Seattle Police Department announced that it will be sending undercover officers to Seahawks games this season to keep an eye on the fans. Police received a number of complaints last year regarding fan violence, including an incident involving two off-duty police officers. More Seahawks coverage: Field Gulls Those officers were the ones doing the misbehaving. Two off-duty Bellevue police officers were escorted off of the premises after using profane language against a uniformed officer and stadium workers. That is the type of behavior the Seattle Police Department will be trying to prevent by sending officers to games dressed just like any other fan, beginning with Thursday’s game against the Oakland Raiders . Anybody seen “taking team rivalries too far” with threats and other intimidating measures will be arrested, if necessary. San Francisco Giants fan Brian Stow just returned home in June after two years in a hospital following a brutal beating at Dodgers Stadium. The Seahawks don’t want any similar incidents to occur at CenturyLink Field.
(USATSI) Veteran cornerback Antoine Winfield signed a one-year deal with the Seahawks in April. On Saturday, he will be a roster casualty, according to CBS Sports NFL Insider Jason La Canfora, and then Winfield will retire. The Seahawks felt comfortable enough with their young physical secondary to move forward without Winfield, who is 36 years old and entering his 15th season. The Bills selected Winfield in the first round of the 1999 NFL Draft . In his career, he has 27 interceptions, 11 fumble recoveries and 7.5 sacks.
Seahawks defense can’t be ignored
Just a little bit helps. Miller gelled with the No. 1 offensive unit during his brief appearance. He saw value in the first units strong series as it prepares for the Panthers. That gives us a little bit of confidence, Miller said. I expect our offense to be explosive this year, so its what we should to do start a football game. Millers return was a welcome sight. Of the five tight ends on the teams 75-man roster, Miller has the most NFL experience.
